Time to get tough on cheap alcohol Alcohol Concern are calling for a minimum unit price after a new report from the Alcohol Health Alliance has shown you can purchase almost seven and a half litres of high strength white cider - as much alcohol as 53 shots of vodka - for the price of a cinema ticket. Joanna Simons, Chief Executive of Alcohol Concern, said: “When you can purchase almost seven and a half litres of high strength white cider for the price of a cinema ticket, it’s clear that we have a problem. “Excessive alcohol consumption continues to take a heavy toll on the health of the nation. Our hospitals are straining from the burden of it and our police forces are stretched to their limits because of it. “The government needs to take action on cheap alcohol by implementing a minimum unit price - a policy which is proven to help reduce hospital admissions and cut crime, and will protect young and vulnerable drinkers.” To read the full report from the Alcohol Health Alliance, please click here.
