In April 2017, Alcohol Concern and Alcohol Research UK merged to become the UK's leading independent alcohol charity.

On 6 November the merged organisation published its annual reports for 2016/17. The reports cover the period prior to the merger.

New CEO of the merged organisation, Dr Richard Piper, said:

“This is a particularly exciting and important time for our organisation. We are currently in the process of a fundamental review which will determine the shape and aim of our newly merged organisation.

“As the reports being published today show, we have some great foundations on which to build. Combining the credibility, research experience, knowledge and insight of Alcohol Research UK with the policy skills and public-facing approach of Alcohol Concern, we aspire to lead a step change in the alcohol harm reduction field in the UK.

“We have some big ideas and a big ambition and we look forward to sharing our new vision for our exciting new charity in the coming months.”
