James is responsible for overseeing research and translation activities. He works with academics, policymakers and practitioners to ensure our work is relevant and impactful. James has a background in alcohol research: he is author of The Politics of Alcohol: A History of the Drink Question in England, co-author of Alcohol, Power and Public Health: A Comparative Study of Alcohol Policy, and a previous recipient of research fellowships from the British Academy and the AHRC. He sits on the Public Health England Alcohol Leadership Board and is Chair of the PHE National Licensing and Public Health Network. He is a member of the International Editorial Board for Drugs: Education, Prevention and Policy and sits on the Executive Committee of the Alcohol and Drugs History Society. James is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and is a trustee of Adfam.
