Did you take part in Dry January? And if so did it help you think about your relationship with alcohol?

It's six months after Dry January and incredibly 72% of participants have a lower AUDIT score than they did before taking part (AUDIT is a way of measuring how harmfully you’re drinking. A low score is a good thing!). Some will have cut down because during Dry January they lost weight and want to keep the pounds off. Others will have saved money. And most will have realised how fantastic life can be with less booze.

But still, cutting down on or cutting out alcohol can be hard. Alcohol is absolutely everywhere, and drinking the amount you plan to can be trickier than we expect.

Or you may have surprised yourself with how easy it's been to cut down your drinking, but you want some way of tracking how much you love your new life.

That’s where the Dry January and Beyond app comes in. We think anyone that takes on Dry January is amazing, and Dry January AND beyond – wow. We want to be with you every step of the way and make it as easy and rewarding as possible too.

Why try the app? Well, it’s free to download, via Google Play or the App Store, and works all year round to help you cut down on or cut out alcohol. It’s great to have a little reminder in your pocket to help keep you motivated. The app features a calendar which you can use to track your progress and record which days you stayed dry and which days you may have had a minor slip-up (there's always tomorrow!) Not only is it satisfying to look back and see how many days you stayed dry during the month, but recording your progress can make it easier to stick to your goal!

As well as recording the number of days you have remained sober the app will also track the amount of money, calories and units you are saving by not drinking, or not drinking as much.

For those of you new to the app or if you are using it but have some queries, here are a few answers to some frequently asked questions to make using app as easy as possible.

  1. I am unable to log in via Google or Facebook, how do I log in?

  • Have you checked your internet connection? If it is running slowly this can make it difficult to log in to the app.
  • Try closing the app, reopening it and trying again.
  • Have you got Facebook installed on the phone you are using? This can make logging on faster.
  1. When I try to sign up using my iPhone half the screen is blacked out or is invisible

Touch the screen a number of times and in different places to reset it. If it still doesn’t work, close the app and open it again.

  1. My Progress or Calendar data missing

  • A good first step to take here is to ensure you have the latest version of the app; you can find this on the App Store or Google Play.
  • Once you have made sure you have the latest version press the ‘Sync Now’ button on the ‘Settings’ page. Your data should be retrieved once the latest version has been installed and ‘Sync Now’ pressed.
  • A final thing to try if you are still having issues is to manually log out of the app and then in again and it should then update itself.
  1. I have been abroad and now my data is not synced correctly.

This happens when travelling abroad, as the different time zones knock the data counter out of sequence. Once you return from your trip please hit the ‘Sync Now’ button and it should reset itself with your original data. If the issue continues please manually log out and then into the app, as this will also re-sync your data.

  1. I got a new phone and downloaded the app and logged in. It didn’t sync correctly and I lost most of my data. How can I correct this?

Please hit the ‘Sync Now’ button in the app settings menu which will sync the missed data. 

  1. I’m still having technical issues with the app!
