New powers to help communities tackle alcohol-related crime
Tuesday 17th May 2005
Alcohol related violence accounts for just under half of all violent crime and is a major issue not just for our emergency services, but for the public too.
Commenting on the proposed bill, Chief Executive, Srabani Sen said ?It is extremely encouraging that the Queen's Speech today includes a bill to help communities tackle this important issue. However, if the Government is serious about restoring "respect" to society, they must be more willing in this Parliament than the last, to take action on the underlying drinking culture which fuels this sort of anti-social behaviour."
