The Transport Minister, Lord Adonis, confirmed that he expects the North Review to recommend a lowering of the drink drive limit.
Speaking in a an interview with the Sunday Times Lord Adonis said: “I would be very surprised if [he] didn’t make recommendations for change, within the area of drink and drug driving.
The review, being conducted by Sir Peter North, follows extensive consultation and look set to recommend a reduction in the legal limit from 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood to 50mg. This would bring England in line with most of the rest of Europe.
Research from the University of London suggests that 65 deaths and 230 serious injuries could be avoided if the limit was reduced.
