The future of the NTA and the Alcohol Education and Research Council
Tuesday 27 July 2010
The government has announced that the National Treatment Agency will join the new Public Health Service and the AERC will no longer be classified as an arm's-length body.
As a result of a review of arm's-length bodies the government has announced that the National Treatment Agency (NTA) will become part of a new Public Health Service - directly accountable to the Secretary of State for Health.
The Alcohol Education and Research Council (AERC) will be removed from the arm's-length bodies sector "while seeking to maximise opportunities for the organisation to contribute to the development of the evidence base for effective policy across government to reduce harm from alcohol misuse".
Changes to a number of arm's-length bodies have been announced and will take place over the next few years. The NTA and AERC changes will take place in April 2012. Read more.
