Government announces review of alcohol taxation and pricing
Monday 19 July 2010
A review of alcohol taxation and pricing is being jointly led by the Home Office and the Treasury and will report in the autumn.
The government is "committed to reviewing alcohol taxation and pricing to tackle problem drinking without unfairly penalising pubs, responsible drinkers or local industry".
Although there is no formal consultation process (at this stage) interest groups are welcome to submit proposals. The government is looking for robust evidence to demonstrate the economic or social impacts of any proposals.
To contribute to the policy-making process, responses are needed before 31 August 2010. The Treaury will also be holding a number of workshops over the summer to discuss the review. Read more.
