Nigel
Somewhere in his early to mid 30's Nigel's drinking crossed the line from social to problem drinking. Over the next decade and as a result of his drinking Nigel lost his job and family and ended up homeless. Eighteen months ago after collapsing and having a seizure, Nigel ended up in detox. He then went for community alcohol counselling and to AA meetings. Both of these interventions helped Nigel begin his recovery. He still regularly attends AA meetings in addition to facilitating SMART Recovery meetings. He gets something from both programmes. In regards to SMART Recovery he particular likes the forward looking nature of the programme.

Carl
"SMART has helped me get my life back on track. Stopping drinking was not that hard, I was running out of options. SMART has taught me new skills like problem solving and living a healthy lifestyle. I don't find calling myself an alcoholic helpful, I know what I was, I won't ever forget. I prefer to concentrate on the future and take responsibility for my behaviour and the choices I make, which for me is what SMART is about. If you have not been to a SMART meeting give it a try, it's informal and you will meet some good people".
Carl, SMART Facilitator.
